A Sunday School Teacher Gets Arrested for Driving Under the Influence, Gets Inspired and Motivated To Obtain Alcohol Rehab for Her Excessive and Irresponsible Drinking, and Strengthens Her Self Esteem

For the past eighteen years Jenny has been an RN at a small Catholic hospital. Moreover, she has also been teaching Sunday school at the local Congregational Church. Despite the fact that she lived in a medium size country town where it seemed like every person knew everyone’s business, very little was known about Jenny. For sure virtually everyone in town knew that she had worked several years as a registered nurse and that she taught Sunday school for as long as she lived in their town. Other than that, nevertheless, it almost seemed as if Jenny was merely a visitor in their community.

You can picture the fervor that took place when it was discovered that one Sunday morning Jenny had lost consciousness due to intoxication. If truth be told, the article in the hometown weekly paper stated that Jenny not only became unconscious, but that she also was arrested for driving under the influence due to the fact that her blood alcohol concentration was three times the legal limit for drunk driving. This is obviously one of the alcohol effects on the body that no Sunday school teacher wants to have made public to the whole town. But this is exactly what occurred, much to the chagrin of Jenny.

Jenny Gets Quite Dismayed About Her Arrest For Driving While Inebriated

Clearly, Jenny was very distraught about her drunk driving arrest. Not only should she have known better about drinking and driving because of her nursing job, but she also should have conducted herself according to a higher benchmark because of the basic fact that she taught Sunday school.

After her DUI arrest, Jenny thought about moving out of town so that she would not have to feel depressed about her arrest and also so she wouldn’t have to clarify her actions for the five hundred thousandth time to the people in town. After discussing things with her reverend, then again, she made up her mind that she would get alcohol rehabilitation at a local drug and alcohol rehabilitation hospital. She did this for two fundamental reasons. First, it was convenient for her to drive to a local rehab center. And second, she genuinely wanted the message to get spread among all the individuals in town that she was genuinely addressing her abusive and excessive drinking.

Jenny Goes Through Alcohol Detoxification and Gets an Extensive Physical Examination

After Jenny went through detox, she was completely examined by a physician at the alcohol rehabilitation hospital. She then underwent several lab tests where it was established that she was not addicted to alcohol but instead was engaging in abusive and hazardous drinking. In short Jenny was engaging in long term alcohol abuse.

Jenny was provided with the alternative of getting alcohol rehabilitation as a residential patient or getting alcohol treatment as an outpatient. Jenny, however, believed that she could still work as a nurse and go on with her Sunday school teaching position if she were to be admitted as an out-patient and this is precisely what she did.

According to her treatment action plan, Jenny went to four rehabilitation sessions per week, she learned quite a bit about alcohol info, she worked on her take home “duties,” and she learned how to do things in life without having a need for alcohol.

After twelve weeks, Jenny realized that her hazardous and careless drinking was under control and so she got discharged from the drug and alcohol treatment center under the condition that she would return for follow up therapy once every three months for the next twelve months. Jenny agreed and followed through on her “word of honor.”

Jenny Decides to Refrain From Any and All Drinking Circumstances and Discovers That Her Self Image Increases

After she completed her therapy Jenny thought that she would be able to drink in moderation. After thinking about things more thoroughly, then again, she decided that she would completely remove herself from all drinking circumstances.

When Jenny arrived at this conclusion, she discovered that her self-respect became more bolstered the more she displayed her power over her life. And as her self-confidence grew stronger, it appeared that she became more sociable and began attending more community activities such as Christmas tree lighting ceremonies, flower festivals, carnivals, music festivals, rib roasts, strawberry festivals, and local high school basketball and football games.

Jenny Addresses Her Excessive and Hazardous Drinking, Makes up Her Mind To Do Something Positive About It, and Reaffirms Her Faith

As the time passed, the individuals in the community manifested more care for Jenny because she was intermingling with them more frequently and also because she faced her excessive and unhealthy drinking and decided to do something beneficial about it. It may have been her imagination, but it also seemed as if her Sunday school pupils exhibited more respect and admiration for her.

Jenny is a living example of someone who faced a serious problem and who did something constructive about it. She is also someone who learned that her religious faith is not only something that is private, but that it is also something that affects the way in which a person interrelates with other people.
